Shore Tackle Update 10/24/09
The water temperatures have dropped significantly over the past week and we’re starting to see some change in the patterns. Temps are well into the 50s now – with reports of anywhere from 54 to 59 degrees, which is about 10 degrees lower than a week or so ago. Folks are finding some larger fish on the channel edges outside the mouths of the rivers – Choptank, South and West in particular.
Over the past few days, 30 foot of water seems to work best. There are some larger fish in motion on the edges and then once in awhile these fish will come up for some feeding.
Some folks are trolling, some are jigging and some are using bait – some are mixing up all three.
The trollers are working the channel edges with smaller bucktail tandems and spoons. 2 ounce / 4 ounce or 3 ounce / 5 ounce bucktail tandems should do the trick. Drones and Tony Acetta spoons are other options. We’re starting to see the planer boards in action.
Peanut Bunker is the bait of choice now and produced well this week.
Breakers are intermittent. Love Point and channel edges north of the bridge saw action over the past few days. One report from Love point this week included lots of smaller fish, but no keepers.
