Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report 7/16/2010

The highly anticipated Snapper Blues have moved into the bay and are being caught from the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay to as far as Rock Hall, mixing in with the schooling Striped Bass, chasing the small bay anchovies and peanut bunker.

Although a smaller stock of fish, the Stripers are breaking the surface heavily and are concentrated in schools where they can be caught on the troll, bait, lures, and fly.

More and more folks are live lining for Striped Bass – smaller Spot are being caught bottom fishing on bloodworm, squid and razor clam.  You can find the Spot throughout the Middle Bay , particularly around structure.

Folks are still doing well trolling small bucktails and tsunami tandems but as the destructive Bluefish move in, Drone Spoons and Tony Acetta Spoons will be the key in your trolling spread.

Perch of good quantity and size are being caught frequently in Eastern Bay, bottom bouncing with bait and artificial lures.

We should start to see some Spanish Mackerel in about 3 weeks in the mid-Bay area
